Your mission
We are looking for an experienced and strategic Chief Architect to drive the technology vision and architecture function of our 600-person strong software vendor, including a dedicated engineering team of ~200 people.  As The European Choice in Service Management, we help our customers to digitalize and automate their work. We are evolving our SaaS offering towards modern, AI-native and cost-effective cloud architecture based on a state-of-the-art Tech Stack.

The Chief Architect will play a crucial role in leading that transformation, including transforming the architecture function following a merger and a shift in strategy. As we transition to cloud architecture following our 'cloud your way' strategy, the Chief Architect will play a crucial role in designing solutions that leverage PaaS but at the same time provide deployment flexibility. The design needs to include the creation of  abstraction layers that shield applications from cloud-specific dependencies, optimizing portability and reliability by establishing clear boundaries between standardized components and customizable elements. A key objective is to develop and execute an architectural approach that allows for accelerating innovation in the current generation of products while at the same time evolving them towards a future architecture.

Key Responsibilities 
  • Define and execute the technology and AI strategy in close collaboration with the CTO.
  • Lead a highly skilled team of Architects, AI/ML Engineers, and SREs, fostering innovation and technical excellence.
  • Drive the modernization of our existing SaaS platform, ensuring scalability, performance, security, and cost-efficiency.
  • Containerization & orchestration – Lead cloud transformation initiatives leveraging Kubernetes, Docker, and container orchestration.
  • Align the target architecture and AI initiatives across the product portfolio to maximize customer and business value.
  • Design and integrate AI-powered capabilities (e.g., predictive analytics, intelligent automation, NLP-based virtual assistants) into the product suite.
  • Design and prototype flexible architecture patterns that support deployment across multiple cloud providers (Azure) and on-premises environments to enable our 'cloud your way' strategy.\ Design flexible architecture patterns that support deployment across multiple cloud providers (Azure or comparable AWS/GCP) and on-premises environments to enable our 'cloud your way' strategy.
  • drive the use of standardized platform components that abstract cloud-specific dependencies while leveraging PaaS where appropriate.
  • Implement FinOps practices to optimize cloud spend while maintaining performance and reliability.
  • Ensure comprehensive architecture documentation, prioritizing key optimizations based on business needs.
  • Together with the CTO and the AI/ML team, the AI Governance Framework will drive our overall AI strategy taking into consideration the use of customer data for ML training purposes.
  • Establish a metric-driven governance framework to measure architectural effectiveness and AI-driven solutions.
  • Conduct technical due diligence (Tech DD) for potential acquisitions (M&A).
  • Coach and enable engineering teams, ensuring architectural practices and responsible AI principles are embedded in development processes.
  • Lead internal AI and architecture communities, collaborating closely with C-level executives, Engineering, Cloud Operations, and other key stakeholders.
Your profile
  • 10+ years of experience in commercial software architecture and/or engineering, with a strong background in enterprise software.
  • 2+ years of experience designing products that include AI/LM enabled functionality.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, AI/ML or a related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in leading an architecture function within a fast-paced SaaS or enterprise software company with products in different phases of their lifecycle
  • Track record of modernizing existing architectures, ensuring scalability, AI-readiness, high availability, and performance across a product portfolio.
  • Strong people management and virtual team leadership experience, including ability to bring together and motivate development and product teams to align and execute on a joint architecture plan and rhythm
  • 10+ years of experience in C# or Java development, with exposure to AI/ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, ML.NET).
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud (and/or AWS, GCP), including Azure AI/ML services, Cognitive Services, and OpenAI APIs.
  • 5+ years of experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and service mesh architectures.
  • Experience with cloud cost management and optimization techniques across different deployment models.
  • Knowledge of data residency, sovereignty, and compliance requirements for distributed cloud deployments.
  • Experience in AI/ML architecture design, including model lifecycle management, MLOps, and AI ethics considerations.
  • Experience in building and managing large-scale SaaS platforms, supporting thousands of customers.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of aligning C-level executives, engineering teams, and business leaders.
